Got a press release today from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada, in which UBC's PR people claim that theirs is the first university in Canada to offer podcasts to "that gives alumni, students, faculty and others global audio access to UBC-related content such as the popular Talk
of the Town lecture series."
I don't know of any other Canadian university that is doing this but if you do -- let me know and we'll challenge UBC's claim (but more importantly find more podcasts).
There are some schools in the U.S. already doing this. One of those is Stanford University in California.

Actually, McMaster Engineering offered Podcasts last summer and are planning to do it this year for prospective students:

Thanks, Joey -- that's what I love about this blogging business -- not sure about someone's claim? Wait about two minutes and someone will show up with the answer.

UBC's communications department has a nasty habit of touting things UBC as "firsts."
Students in Journalism 101 are taught it's almost always a no-no, but when a university press release says so, we might believe them. Bad idea. The Globe and Mail ran a retraction earlier this year on a story, quoting a UBC press release, that claimed a UBC professor was the "first" winner of Japan's Cosmos Prize. |
