Father and Son MP teams?
OK all you political trivia masters — here’s one: Have a father and his son ever served as an MP at the same time in the House of Commons? We ask after noting that 30–year-old Ryan Warawa is out to seek the Conservative Party nomination in the riding of Burnaby-New Westminster, a riding currently held by the NDP’s Peter Julian. Ryan Warawa is the son of Mark Warawa, the 56–year-old MP for the riding of Langley.

Re: Father and Son MP teams?
A reader writes in to say that the answer to this trivia question was right there in front of us all along -- at the Parliamentary Web site! The staff of the Library of Parliament have already combed through the records and compiled a list of parents and children who sat at the same time in the House of Commons.
It hasn't happened in a while: The most recent pair was a Trudeau-era father and son team from Quebec and dad was the leader of the political party they both belonged to. A post-war Prime Minister also sat in the House with his son and - get this - two Confederation-era PMs also sat in the House with their sons. Ok, you've got the hints -- do you dare click through for the answers? |
